The principal company subsidiary in Angola is Esso Exploration Angola (Block 15) Limited.

Esso Angola’s workforce is over 700 people, about two-thirds of whom are Angolan. The Company’s principal office is located in the Angolan capital of Luanda and additional employees are stationed in the cities of Soyo, Lobito and our offshore facilities.

Esso Angola is the operator of Block 15 on behalf of state oil company Sonangol, the concessionaire.

Block 15 was awarded in 1994 and the first discovery was made in 1998. Esso Angola holds a 40 percent interest in the block. First oil was produced in 2003 from the Xikomba field, followed by Kizomba A in 2004, Kizomba B in 2005 and Kizomba C in 2008.

Planning continues to progress development of the remaining discovered resources on Block 15. The Block 15 developments are benchmark projects that set world record cycle times with the lowest unit-development costs for projects of this size and complexity.

ExxonMobil owns a 20 percent interest on Block 17, where the first discovery was made in 1996. A number of projects have started up, including Girassol in 2001, Dalia in 2006 and Rosa in 2007. The next development will be Pazflor - project execution activities will begin in 2008.

ExxonMobil also has interests in Blocks 31 (25 percent) and 32 (15 percent). Development planning activities are underway for a number of discoveries in these blocks.
